Register at the link in our bio or go to bit.ly/STAYSUPPORT to join❤️ Sending deep love. DM us for questions.
The STAY Project is with y’all in the heartbreak—both regionally in the midst of the unnatural disaster and devastation of Hurricane Helene and globally as we witness the continued rise of genocidal ‘war.’ While we are abandoned and left to fend for, care for, and protect ourselves and our communities, the leaders of the US empire continue to fund and support genocide in Palestine and Lebanon and around the world.
In this moment, we want to amplify these organizations and groups working to move resources and coordinate rapid response across the region. Please move resources to and follow the leadership of folks on the ground and in community! We are with y’all now and for the long haul of recovery, rebuilding, and preparing our communities for ongoing climate collapse. Sending deep love and solidarity ❤️

That’s a wrap for #AppalachianLoveWeek. Thank you for your support, for sharing your #appalachianlovestory, for listening to ours, and for loving us.
.
If we could leave you with one thing - it’s to remember that the dreams of Black Appalachian Youth are the future of our region and communities. Support how you can and when you can. It will take all of us to reach the future we want to see.
.
We love you. We love us. We are so grateful to do this work alongside you.
Mary’s #AppalachianLoveStory:
“BAYR is a dream come true for countless Black folks who have worked so hard to make and find community here. We deserve safe, affirming, and transformative spaces to grow up and into who we dream to be. Black Appalachian Youth are powerful and thriving and aren’t going anywhere!”
.
We invite you to share your #appalachianlovestory, share the Appalachian Love Stories of others, and consider making a gift to STAY in honor of Appalachian Love Week. All gifts this week directly support BAYR. 💚 You can support us at the link in our bio!
As #AppalachianLoveWeek starts winding down, Nina Morgan our #blackappalachianyoungandrising STAYtion coordinator shares insights from the BAYR retreat. Nina shares BAYR’s collective #appalachianlovestory.
.
We ask our community - if you have the means - to give directly to support Black youth leadership in Appalachia through Black Appalachia Young and Rising at the link in our bio.
A-Nya’s #appalachianlovestory:
BAYR helped me feel like I really had ownership of my Appalachian identity. Growing up, I always felt like being “Appalachian” was exclusively a white thing, and I was just a Black person who lived in Appalachia. BAYR helped me step into my power as an organizer and also the power to truly believe that I belong in a place that has so much Black and Indigenous history rooted here.
.
We invite you to share your #appalachianlovestory, share the Appalachian Love Stories of others, and consider making a gift to STAY in honor of Appalachian Love Week. All gifts this week directly support BAYR. 💚 You can support us at the link in our bio!
Support BAYR instead of Netflix for #AppalachianLoveWeek. For the same price as a Netflix subscription you can support Black Appalachian youth. We did the math to imagine the possibile impact of our community and the results are staggering! What does it look like to withhold support from corporations like Netflix and support youth in our region instead?
.
Of course not everyone can afford to make a gift this week and we know that $6.99 isn’t a small amount of money. So - we want to remind you that there are so many other ways to impact our communities and region, too! We invite you to join us and tell us what changes you would like to help bring about in our region. Also, sharing our story is a great way to support our work.
.
You can make a gift by following the link in our bio. You can also join STAY and BAYR on our website. Share your #appalachianlovestory or ours with your own communities. It will take all of us to build a more liberated world.
Nina’s #appalachianlovestory:
“BAYR reminds me of the power of black youth across the region — we’re out here building the world that we want to see in beautiful ways.
It motivates me to work to empower young people to dream and break out of isolation and despair. It’s hard at times, but it’s worth it…and can be life-saving.”
.
We invite you to share your #appalachianlovestory, share the Appalachian Love Stories of others, and consider making a gift to STAY in honor of Appalachian Love Week. All gifts this week directly support BAYR. 💚 You can support us at the link in our bio!
4 ways you can support Black Appalachian youth through BAYR during #AppalachianLoveWeek:
1. Witness! Listen to our #appalachianlovestories and amplify our voices. Share our stories with your community.
2. Commit! Show up alongside us. Join the #staytogetherappalachianyouth and #blackappalachianyoungandrising membership on our website.
3. Resource. Invest what you can, according to your means. Even $5 a month helps us do our work. You can give at our link in bio.
4. Love. Celebrate eachother and show care. We are building something beautiful.
Robert’s #AppalachianLoveStory:
“I love the cozy nature of Appalachia. Fishing on the weekends, going to trade day, and spending time with my grandma working on his house so many years ago. If you are willing to spend time in your community here Appalachia it pays off. My current position in leadership as coordinator of popular education organizing would not be possible if not for the backing of the Coco’s and BAYR. BAYR gave me a real footing in the organization and helped me expand my love of Appalachia beyond the borders of my city as it gave credibility to the fact that being black in Appalachia still makes you Appalachian. And no one can take away your culture, your family’s history, and your communities identity.”

STAY Project Community Mapping Scavenger Hunt
You are about to embark on the STAY Project’s community mapping scavenger hunt! If we want to make our communities places where we can and want to STAY we have to know our communities. This scavenger hunt is adapted from the Highlander Center’s Mapping our Futures curriculum and is a way for you to get familiar with your community and share it with us.
